# y! Q4 O l7 r; @3 D6 K0 p/ c6 [涎欲滴。从未见过如此之物,向人讨教,方知是枇杷。剥开一颗,放之嘴里,清凉鲜美的

汁液溢满口腔。如此美妙之果莫非是天人享用之物?一番讨价还价之后,以不菲的价格换5 v" W$ H1 E2 a2 z% N
: ?8 K, S% Q/ V4 B3 i' H! k得几十余颗。赶快捧回家,作为佐书之“菜”。2 Q" U( p0 O! ^3 m

anything like it, and learned after inquiring that they are called loquats. I peeled one open and

6 T) x9 j; E% H: A* g8 x5 ^8 iput it in my mouth. A refreshing and delicious juice filled my mouth—yum! Such tasty fruit must

" J9 N7 i. w/ `* J8 L+ Wbe the treat of the god realm! After a little bargaining, I brought dozens at quite a steep price3 o4 T! }' |% ?$ e, K
7 q( M+ k2 R6 y3 c4 Iand hurried home with them, thinking to savor them with my readings.

翻开《白莲花论》,书中曰:“世上有谁能永享快乐?又有谁会永远受苦?未曾感受痛苦

$ s( B$ @3 f: W, h; _。”古代也有“福兮祸所伏,祸兮福所倚”的说法。

“How many people in the world will enjoy everlasting happiness? How many people in the world# N! v- y( ~; V- ?, Q* x1 l8 ]

will suffer endless miseries? How many have never experienced suffering? After attaining
+ o6 B% F2 J/ v! _4 S( U* z% Y) b2 z2 f/ P" w
happiness, how many have enjoyed it forever?” Indeed, throughout the journey of life, there will' \- ?' @# \# i' I! d+ }( G
v2 o8 `: T9 ]4 f- ^be happiness, but suffering will be there as well. Whatever one’s identity is, one is bound to taste
' e' }7 D3 K/ f7 ^+ f# b( B, k
! B7 M6 `; \/ b; H/ N# c2 ]the assorted bitter sweetness of life. A person of wisdom therefore must meet life’s vicissitudes
5 ]! Y: E, L9 Y }; N
, E+ X9 s; t5 k1 Kcalmly: neither becoming arrogant with success nor discouraged by failure. The French

* F$ ?+ T$ @- W. X$ }philosopher La Rochefoucauld says that the happiness and misery of men depend no less on

; t& w [- B+ i8 @- y9 q% ftemper than fortune, mirroring this ancient saying:

Misfortune, that is where happiness depends;9 u1 l1 E6 ?4 a# i8 T

/ i) J- V) d. n, p# v) R6 \Therefore, whenever we are seized with intense emotion of pleasure or pain in a happy or sad! {- H! L* y4 N! S. w+ ^6 u' @, o
9 R, d! i. p+ Z- l, _5 y' ymoment, we should look squarely at its essence. This is the most crucial, most powerful way of0 T6 }4 N% D: W3 b/ Q0 K
1 t' {+ f: c6 ^$ ? I- k& {practice.# [% ~7 ?, P {2 t% r
! W T, ^# n5 q" w0 ~% {* ^
想着想着,不知不觉忘了吃枇杷的事。但我在书里尝到了比枇杷更鲜美的滋味。这才是世
% _! v- U4 J# }5 `8 M/ ~+ v/ M3 W7 ^* V. `
上最鲜美的枇杷,且经久不腐,即使历经百年、千年,也可永久享用。/ h* _5 n& p; T& |3 U. d5 N! e/ s

While entertaining these thoughts, I forgot completely my plan to enjoy the loquats. Yet from a" [5 C+ i$ c$ k5 \' r" c

book I have tasted something more delicious than the exquisite fruit. The teaching is the most
' T( w* H" @) e; B } | U2 o- d' u3 v; ?' M2 w7 k& H
delectable loquat in the world, it will never rot, and it is ready to be savored even a hundred or a
$ K. P0 |' P% o6 W# X( X% |/ H* G1 ~3 U1 u
thousand years later.
